Hot Pot

$45 For 1 people
Detail
Hot Pot

Hot pot, and the less common Chinese fondue, refer to several East Asian varieties of stew, is ke consisting of a simmering metal pot of stock at the center of the dining table. While the hot pot .is kept simmering, ingredients are placed into the pot and are cooked at the table. Typical hot pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, leafy vegetables, mushrooms, wontons, egg dumplings, and seafood. The cooked food is usually eaten with a dipping sauce. In many areas, hot pot meals are often eaten inn the winter.

The Chinese hot pot boasts a history of more than 1,000 years. While often called "Mongolian hot pot", it is unclear if the dish actuall originated in Mongolia. Mongol warriors had been known to cook with their helmets, which they used to boil food, but due to the complexity and specialization of the utensils and the method of eating, hot pot cooking is much better suited to a sedentary culture. A nomadic household will avoid such highly specialized tools to save volume and weight during migration. Both the preparation method and the required equipment are unknown in the cuisine of Mongolia of today.
Hot pot cooking seems to have spread to northern China during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-906). In time, regional variations developed with different ingredients such as seafood. By Qing Dynasty, hot pot had become popular throughout most of China. Today in many modern homes, particularly in big cities, the traditional coal-heated hot pot has been replaced by electric, gas or electromagnetic cooker versions.
Because hot pot styles change so much from region to region, many different ingredients are used.

Xian Bell Tower and Drum Tower

$29 For 1 people
Detail
Xian Bell Tower and Drum Tower

In Chinese history from Ming Dynasty, each city had a bell tower and a drum tower. The bell was sounded at dawn and the drum at dusk each day in ancient time. Xian was not an exception. The Bell Tower and Drum Tower of Xi'an date back to the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Atop the Bell Tower you will have a panoramic view of the Xian City; atop the Drum Tower you will have a bird's eye view of the Muslim Quarters.

The Drum Tower is located northwest of the Bell TowerXian across the Bell and Drum Tower Square. Both of them are called the 'sister buildings' or 'morning bell and dark drum'. In ancient China, especially from the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), the drums were used to signal the running of time and on occasion were used as an alarm in emergency situations.

The Drum Tower, located northwest of the Bell Tower, was originally built in 1380 during the early Ming Dynasty and renovated twice in Qing Dynasty. Drum Tower got its name because of the huge drum situated within the tower, which wasat sunset to indicate the end of the day and also used as an alarm in emergency situations. The Bell Tower was constructed in the panel structure with two storey posts. There is also a Drum Museum inside the Drum Tower, where there are a large variety of drums.

In modern times, the Drum Tower is not used as a timer any more, but there are some new attractions for visitors to enjoy. In the year of 1996, a new drum, covered by a whole piece of cowhide was given a place on the Tower. It is the biggest drum in China at present. What is more, visitors will enjoy musical performances inside it.

The Bell Tower, is a stately traditional building, that marks the geographical center of the ancient capital. From this important landmark extend East, South, West and North Streets, connecting the Tower to the East, South, West and North Gates of the City Wall of the Ming Dynasty.

The Bell Tower was constructed in 1384 during the early Ming Dynasty and it is one of the grandest in China. Structured by brick and timber, the Bell Tower was built to be as high as 40 meters with an occupation of 1,377 square meters. The Bell Tower is a masterpiece of Ming styled architectures with its three layers of eaves decorated with dark green glazed tiles and gold-plating on the roof. Gilded color paintings and beautiful engravings make the Bell Tower more stylish.

Today, Bell Tower can only be accessed from the entrance on Bei Dajie where visitors have to purchase their tickets. To the west of the Bell Tower is the Drum Tower. This is a smaller building, locateda busy street which is full of street traders and hawkers.marks the entrance to the city's Muslimisinteresting area to walk around and have a look. You will feel as if you are in a "city within a city" and the streets around this district leading to the Mosque are like a small village filled with people selling all kinds of things.

Fengdu Ghost City

$45 For 1 people
Detail
Fengdu Ghost City

Located on the Ming Mountain on the northern bank of the Yangtze River, Fengdu County is known to most Chinese as the 'Ghost City'. Having nearly two thousand years' history, the Ghost City combines the cultures of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism with the mystique of ghosts. Many famous literary works like Journey to the West, Apotheosis of Heroes and Strange Tales of a Lonely Studio contain vivid references to Fengdu.

Fengdu got its name as the Ghost City in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Two officials from the imperial court Yin Changsheng and Wang Fangping decided to come to Ming Mountain to practice Taoist teachings. Through self-cultivation they became immortals. Combining their surnames produces the term "Yinwang" meaning the "king of hell." Later, during the Tang Dynasty, a stupendous temple was erected on Ming Mountain depicting life in hell. It displays demonic images and torture devices and reflects the notion that good people will be treated well in the afterlife and that bad people will be punished by going to hellIn the Chinese vision of the afterlife, the dead must undergo three major tests to enter the. These tests are taken at three locations - Nothing-To-Be-Done-Bridge; Ghost Torturing Pass and the Tianzi (son of heaven) Palace. These three locations are amongin this scenic area.

  Nothing-To-Be-Done-Bridge

Built during the Ming Dynasty, the bridge connects thewith the real world and is a testing point for good and evil. According to legend, the Nothing-To-Be-Done-Bridge is composedthree identical stone arches. The middle arch is used for testing people. There are different protocols for crossing the bridge depending on your gender, age and marital status. Below the bridgesquare-shaped pools of water. Virtuous people will pass over the bridge without obstacle; villainous people will fall into the pools below. The other two arches are called the golden and silver bridges respectively. When preparing to leave, visitors are encouraged to pass these two bridges because according to local superstition this will bring them good fortune.

  Ghost Torturing Pass

It is the second test before entry into the nether world. It is said that this is the place where the dead report to the Yama, the King of Hell, for judgment. In front of theare eighteen sculptures depicting ferocious demons. Each of these devils is quite lifelike creating a feeling of true.

  Palace

Having over three hundred years' history the palace covers an area of nearly 2,908 square yards. It is composed of a temple gate () and the palace itself. The gate is an archway made of wood and stone rising toof nearly 33 feet. The palace is the nerve center of this scenic area and is the oldest and largest temple on Ming Mountain.

The third test tohell takes placea large stone in front of the gate. The ghost must stand on the stone on one foot for three minutes. A good person will be able to do this while an evil oneand will be sent to hell.

One other ghostly attraction in Fengdu worth mentioning is the Last-Glance at Home Tower. This structure was built in 1985 and commemorates the site where spirits consigned to hell could take one last look at their families.

Visitors coming here will marvel at theof ancient craftsman, the unique styles of architecture and the culture of the ghost. Whatever your beliefs, you are constantly reminded the "Good will be rewarded with good, and evil with evil." A major highlight here is the annual temple fair every March 3 - 5 featuring all kinds of folk activities and performances.

White Emperor City

Cruising downstream along the Yangtze River Fengjie for about 8 km (5 miles), you will find many buildings with hanging eaves standing among verdant trees on the mountains, and that is the White Emperor CityIt is located at the northern bank of the Yangtze River, near the mouth of Qutang Gorge. It has long been a famous place since ancient times.

At the end of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - 24 AD) when the throne was usurped by Wang Mang. Gongsun Shu, a general following Wang Mang, made Sichuan an independent regime, and also wanted to be an emperor. When he heard that a well in the Ziyang Town at the bank of Qutang Gorge always released white fog which looked like a white dragon, he spread a rumor that the white fog was a white dragon, which indicated he could become an emperor (a dragon was believed to be the incarnation of an emperor in ancient China). In 25 AD, Gongsun Shu proclaimed himself White Emperor and renamed the town White Emperor City, and the mountain White Emperor MountainAt that time, many places suffered from wars, but people in White Emperor City had a peaceful life, so they built a White Emperor Temple and a statue of Gongsun Shu to commemorate him after he died.
In White Emperor City ‍, some ancient architecture can be seen.Tang is the most attractive one.the Three Kingdom Period (220 - 280), the king of the Shu Kingdom, Liu Bei, failed in the battle with the Wu Kingdom at Baidi City. He became ill and entrusted his son to his prime minister, Zhuge Liang before closing his eyes. Now, the hall exhibits the statues which depict the scene of Liu Bei entrusting his son to Zhuge Liang.Palace is where the statue of Gongsun Shu was once sacrificed by the people. In the Ming Dynasty, thewas replaced by those of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhangfei and Zhuge Liang. Another feature worth-mention is the Observing Stars Pavilion. It is the place where Zhuge Liang observed the stars and developed the tactic of using armsOther relics housed in Baidi Templestele forest, ancient suspended wooden coffins, painting and calligraphy works by celebrities of different dynasties.
Famous poets such as, Dufu, Bai Juyi, Liu Yuxi, Sushi, Huang Tingjian, Fan Chengda, Liuyong all had climbed Baidi Cheng and traveled aroundand therefore left many poems describing those scenic spots. Therefore, BaidiCheng is also known as "Poem Town".
In the future, BaidiCheng will be surrounded by water on all four sides. This will make the town a fairyland with astonishing beauty and charming scenery. Visitors can get into the city directly by cruise ships.

Yes everything was spectacular and fascinating very professional and prompt services. There were beautiful places to explore and to see in the 4 hours that we had. The comfort and beauty of the China was incredible, The history, culture and way of life of the local people we bumped into during the layover was beyond our expectations. Hiking on the Great wall after driving through a small remote countryside was very relaxing and rejuvenating. It was the best trip ever to experience on a few hours.

We had not previously used a travel agency for touring. The crew including the driver and tour guide were really funny, friendly and knowledgeable. Despite having limited time we still had free time allowing for shopping and grabbing a meal and drinks. Highly recommend this layover in Beijing.

Booking from South Africa on ChinaTour.net was so quick and easy, however I had to mail customer service as I had not received my confirmation within the 48 hours that the original mail had stated. Once done I received confirmation for all my train and internal flights within 20 minutes of sending the mail. I would highly recommend this website for booking trips through China and i will use it again in future.

Well worth it! Jenny was really nice and incredibly helpful with the immigration process after airport personnel originally escorted to the wrong area and didn’t want to allow leaving the airport. She takes great photos! Beautiful views and fun to take the toboggan down. Wasn’t too crowded on this day - and definitely worth doing with a 7 hour layover. Nice car and driver too.

Great app to buy train tickets. If you don't know the language you just show the e-ticket that the app gave you and the seller will give the tickets to you without the need to talk.

I used China tour company to visit Hangzhou on on feb 7th. It’s a private tour. The experience is very pleasant and enjoyable. Tour guide Mr. Mark Zhou was very good. He speaks good English and very patient. He knows his stuff. I visited West Lake , Buddhist temple and the Pagoda. The tour was very enjoying and place (Hangzhou) is a must to see if you wish to enjoy the nature and Chinese culture and tradition. I recommend it to every one visiting China.
