Day 1 Arrival in Zhangye

Upon arrival at Zhangye airport or railway station, the friendly tour guide and driver pick you up then escort you to the hotel for check-in. Spend the rest of the time relaxing or strolling in the city by yourself.

Binggou Danxia Park, Kangle Grassland, Zhangye Danxia National Geopark

The first stop today is Binggou Danxia Park. Drive around 1 hour and enjoy the magnificent soil along the way, the hard soil shaped differently after being weathering for years, the peak looks like a camel, torch, palace, frog, etc. You will have the chance to overlook the Qilian Snow Mountain from distance. After enjoying delicious lunch at a local restaurant, have a leisurely walk on Kangle Grassland where dotted with colorful flowers, birds, cattle and sheep etc. Afterward, enjoy the sunset and capture the beautiful Zhangye Danxia National Geopark. It has gorgeous colors and layers of smooth and sharp cliffs, which is so imposing when you taking pictures. At last, drive back to the hotel and have a rest.

Kindly Notice: After the rain, the color of the soil is more brilliant and bright. It is the best time to appreciate the Danxia landform.

Mati Temple, Giant Buddha Temple in Zhangye

In the morning, you will visit the Mati Temple, which is well-known as the deity horse footprints. It is a tourist destination integrating grotto art, Buddhist culture, natural scenery, Yugurs and Tibetan style. Then drive back to downtown and enjoy tasty lunch. Afterward, you will visit the Giant Buddha Temple in Zhangye, which is China's largest reclining Buddha. After that, you’ll pay a visit to a local family and learn about the local lifestyle and customs. Return to the hotel after visiting.

Pingshan Grand Canyon

After breakfast, enjoy 1-hour scenic drive to Pingshan Grand Canyon. It was comparable to the Colorado Grand Canyon by The Magazine of Chinese Geography and someone even said it looks like Mars. Hike in the canyon and enjoy the marvelous Gobi desert and appreciate various soil shapes created by nature, some look like toad, birds, buildings and towers as well as stone forest etc. Besides, experience thrilling sky ladder and optional camel ride if you like. After visiting, you will be sent back to the hotel.

Yes everything was spectacular and fascinating very professional and prompt services. There were beautiful places to explore and to see in the 4 hours that we had. The comfort and beauty of the China was incredible, The history, culture and way of life of the local people we bumped into during the layover was beyond our expectations. Hiking on the Great wall after driving through a small remote countryside was very relaxing and rejuvenating. It was the best trip ever to experience on a few hours.

We had not previously used a travel agency for touring. The crew including the driver and tour guide were really funny, friendly and knowledgeable. Despite having limited time we still had free time allowing for shopping and grabbing a meal and drinks. Highly recommend this layover in Beijing.

Well worth it! Jenny was really nice and incredibly helpful with the immigration process after airport personnel originally escorted to the wrong area and didn’t want to allow leaving the airport. She takes great photos! Beautiful views and fun to take the toboggan down. Wasn’t too crowded on this day - and definitely worth doing with a 7 hour layover. Nice car and driver too.
