Guangzhou Zoo

Situated in the east part of Middle Xian Lie Road, Guangzhou Zoo is one of the three largest zoos in China with an area of over 42 hectares and more than 5,000 animals that belong to over 400 species. Guangzhou Zoo also has the largest overland ocean exhibition house and the largest butterfly ecology garden in China. It receives an annual visit of about 4 million visitors from all over the world. With a development history of 50 years, Guangzhou Zoo has become a diversified place for animal exhibition, science education and entertainment now. This also helped it to expand its area and become more suitable for the animals, with 5000 animals roaming freely and comfortably.
The animals inside the zoo are exhibited in different areas according to their types, for example, the insects, reptiles and amphibians, birds, primates, felines, and herbivores. What’s more, there are not only rare animals from China such as panda, golden monkey, South China tiger, elk, brow-antlered deer, and black-necked crane, but also those rare animals all over the world such as chimpanzee, giraffe, African elephant, hippopotamus, zebra, rhinoceros, and black swan. .
The zoo ever successfully reproduced over one hundred species, and managed the successful breeding of chimpanzee, Asian elephant and giraffe in China. It has multiplied herds of wild animals. The park is also a national base for public education about natural science.
In recent years, the zoo has successively developed multiple attractions and projects, including the Guangzhou Aquarium, the biggest land aquarium in China, the biggest butterfly ecological garden in China, the dinosaur scientific hall, the Goldfishes (which is a unique outdoor exhibition garden of aquarium fishes exclusive in China), as well as the dazzling and exciting animal performances.
In addition, the zoo has also launched projects like "Watching Animals Eat" and the "Animal Square", where visitors can not only watch the hippos open their big mouths, the elephants use their noses, as well as the wolves and tigers eat, but can also take a photo with the lovely animals.
There are two giant panda sisters living here, Yali and Wenli. They were delivered from Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in 2013. Wenli is the elder sister with the pointed face. Yali is very active and has two conspicuous freckles on her nose. They are fed three times a day with carefully prepared cornmeal buns and fresh bamboo. Sweets are the two sisters' favorite. They like apples very much and 300 grams of apples a day is very necessary.
Three south China tigers, Huazai, Tongtong and Junjun, are raised in the zoo. Huazai was born here in 1998. Tongtong and Junjun are younger and were introduced from Shanghai and Fujian respectively.
There are a couple of African lions and two white lions. They eat 6-7.5 kilograms of meat a day. If the lions are fed a few minutes later than their meal time, they will impatiently walk around the cage and growl. After eating and drinking, they usually lie down on the ground and sleep drowsily.
Situated inside the zoo, it reveals the colorful underwater world with splendid scenery and many marine animals. Visitors can enjoy three great shows of the aquarium: graceful mermaid show, interesting seal performance, and thrilling Dancing with Shark. Visitors can also feed the fish, turtles and seals.
The Goldfish Garden exhibits nearly 100 species in total of 10,000 famed and precious fishes, including goldfish, koi, and freshwater tropical fish, like angelfish, arowana, and silver arowana.
Animal Performance has performers like lions, tigers, monkeys, dogs and horses. They are trained to perform acrobatics and other interesting shows, like riding bikes, and playing scooters.
