Possession Point is a former point of land on the northwestern coast of Hong Kong Island before land reclamation moved the coast further north. The Chinese name reflects the mouth of a stream from Victoria Peak.
　　In January 1841, during what came to be known as the First Opium War, the British navy first landed on the shores of Hong Kong right next to this point.?Edward Belcher, a navy officer, led the fleet to a small anchorage and the actual camp was erected here. The path that connected the anchorage and the camp had later become Possession Street. In 26th January 1841, the commander of the Far East Fleet, James John Gordon Bremer, came to Hong Kong . A flag rise and gun ceremony marked the official possession of Hong Kong and the landing point was officially named Possession Point.
　　Possession Point was kept as an open space, and used for recreation by the local Chinese, who called it Tai Tat Tei. It was developed in the 1980s and formed into a hotel and commercial complex, which is also the site of the Hong Kong–Macau Ferry Terminal.
　　The point has now disappeared from the coastline, but Possession Street and the sudden turn of Queen's Road West reveals its original location. In maps of the 1980s and before, Hollywood Road Park is marked as Possession Point. This marks the original site which, owing to land reclamation, is no longer located on the coast.
