Day 1 Beijing-Datong by Train

Be picked up at the hotel in Beijing by the driver then transfer to Beijing Railway Station to take the train to Datong(around 6 hours). Upon arrival, your tour guide and driver will pick you up then transfer to the hotel. Free activity!

Day 2 Datong-Jinzhong by Private Vehicle

Hanging Monastery, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda

On this day, start the day off at the Hanging Monastery after hotel pick-up by the driver and tour guide. The Hanging Temple features Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism which built along the steep cliff. Then drive 1 hour to Yingxian Wooden Pagoda which is renowned for being a whole piece of work without any nails. Return to hotel.

Day 3 Jinzhong

Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Monastery, Datong Nine Dragon Screen

The tour guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel in the morning, then start an excursion to Yungang Grottoes where you'll see stretching graves from east to west with different styles of Buddhist statues. After sampling palatable lunch, then move to the largest and most well-preserved temple. Get to see the Upper Huayan Temple and Lower Huayan Temple, different gates and architecture styles. Have a close look at Datong Nine Dragon Screen with glazed tiles. At last, send you back to the hotel.

Day 4 Datong-Pingyao by Train

Be picked up at the hotel in Beijing by driver then transfer to Datong Railway Station to take the train to Pingyao(around 5.5 hours). Upon arrival, your tour guide and driver will pick you up then transfer to the hotel. Free activity!

Day 5 Pingyao Ancient City

After freshening up today, you will spend your time exploring Ancient City Wall in Pingyao Ancient City; one of the four remaining well-preserved ancient city walls in China. Then visit the Rishengchang Exchange Shop which is the earliest bank in China. Afterwards, move on to the Ming Qing Street which is an interesting street to experience ancient Chinese culture. Then visit the Armed Escort Company which provides security service for protecting commerce and cash moving in the ancient time. Finally, visit County Government Office, an ancient city hall and law court. After the tour, return to hotel.

Shuanglin Temple, Wang Family Compound

After breakfast, visit Shuanglin Temple, which stands more than 2,000 various colorful Buddhist statuses from Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Enjoy the vivid like statues and explore history from your tour guide. After lunch, drive to Wang Family Compound, you'll amaze at its grand buildings in Ming and Qing style architecture, browse carved doorway, walls, and windows slowly when exploring Red Gate Castle and Gaojiaya etc. Learn the history of Wang Family and how they creat this fabulous mansion. In the late afternoon, send to the railway station or hotel.

Yes everything was spectacular and fascinating very professional and prompt services. There were beautiful places to explore and to see in the 4 hours that we had. The comfort and beauty of the China was incredible, The history, culture and way of life of the local people we bumped into during the layover was beyond our expectations. Hiking on the Great wall after driving through a small remote countryside was very relaxing and rejuvenating. It was the best trip ever to experience on a few hours.

We had not previously used a travel agency for touring. The crew including the driver and tour guide were really funny, friendly and knowledgeable. Despite having limited time we still had free time allowing for shopping and grabbing a meal and drinks. Highly recommend this layover in Beijing.

Well worth it! Jenny was really nice and incredibly helpful with the immigration process after airport personnel originally escorted to the wrong area and didn’t want to allow leaving the airport. She takes great photos! Beautiful views and fun to take the toboggan down. Wasn’t too crowded on this day - and definitely worth doing with a 7 hour layover. Nice car and driver too.

He speaks good English and very patient. He knows his stuff. I visited West Lake , Buddhist temple and the Pagoda. An additional transfer fee will be incurred if your hotel is outside the above mentioned area. If your hotel is located in a narrow lane or an apartment block, we suggest you find the nearest hotel on the main street as your pick-up point.
