Chang Family Manor

  The Chang Family Manor in county Yuci built in the Qing Dynasty is located in Shanxi province. Chang Family Manor in Yuci county lies in remote northern China. The gate is 10-meter-high, the wall, moat and gate tower forms a whole city rather than a private estate. Due to food shortage, Chang Zhonglin, the family's ancestor, fled to Yuci. He worked as a shepherd in late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). His son ranand was better off in early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and started to build the mansion and gradually expanded to 4,000 houses covering 60 hectares.

  The 1,000-house manor at present is only one fourth of its original size. The rest were either destroyed in wars or demolished during the "cultural revolution"The manor was mainly painted withgray, brown and black.
