Daguan Park

Daguan Park is a lakeside part located in the southwestern suburb of Kunming, Yunnan, China.  Today many locals come to sit, drink tea, fly kites, and go boating. Among shady walks and pools, Daguan's key point is Daguan Pavilion, a square, three-storeyed pavilion built to convenient the Kangxi emperor's enjoyment of the distant western hills and now a storehouse of calligraphy. The park is set on Daguan Stream, which flows south into lake dian, and there are frequent hour-long cruises down the waterway, lined with willows, to points along Lake Dian's northern shore.
Grand View Park used to be a garden owned by the noble Mu family, and was named after the famous tower in the park called Grand View Tower. In 1690, many additions were made to the park, such as flowers, trees, ponds, causeways, pavilions and halls. The park is, therefore, a fantastic place in which to enjoy beautiful scenery and get close to nature and is also an excellent spot for an alfresco barbeque.
Kunming is an excellent holiday destination due to its salubrious year-round climate,  blossoming flowers , leisure pursuits, and relaxed ambience There are various perennial flowers and plants blossoming in every corner of the city, hence its nickname,  “Spring City”. The park itself is centered around grand view pavilion, a three-storey tower designed to give panoramic views of the  park grounds, Dianchi Lake and Xishan. The views from the balconies are quite nice.
Construction of Grand View Pavilion was completed in the 1690s. Perhaps more famous than the view provided by the pavilion is the poem carved into the gateposts of the south-facing door. It is comprised of a series of rhyming couplets composed by the poet Sun Ranweng and is purportedly the longest series of its kind ever composed in China. The "Long Couplet" was written during the Qing Dynasty and is considered to be one of Yunnan's most important pieces of cultural heritage. The poem is divided into three sections. The first describes the scenery around the pavilion and then moves on to a lengthy explanation of Yunnan's history before ending with a meditation on the Buddhist concept of nirvana.According to local legend, Sun carved his poem into the pillars of the pavilion himself. A life-sized statue of Sun, who reputedly was an incredibly accurate fortune-teller, sits just outside the pavilion.
