Introduction 

Situated in east Yunnan Province, Luoping is the ideal place to see a golden sea of rapeseed plants also known as canola flowers set against beautiful karst hills. Huge contours of the land are planted with the seeds and they begin to blossom late February through early April making it the best time to visit the area when the flowers are in bloom. After the flower petals dry and fall off the seeds are harvested and crushed to extract canola oil. 

The rapeseeds are planted following the topography of the villages and they appear like rings of snail shells giving rise to the spiral-shaped fields. The fields are carved out of valleys forming spellbinding terrain full of small basins in the middle of karst formations. The area is packed with visitors mainly between mid-February to early March falling during the Chinese New Year and in those few weeks, visitors get the chance to get a glimpse of the colorful countryside and appreciate the natural topography set in golden yellow slopes.

Luositian

From Luositian the rapeseed fields form screw-like shapes with the canola arranged along with hilly surroundings.

Jinjiling

At Jinjiling you can get expansive views of the fields and hills facing the north and south direction. Watching the sunrise here at dawn is the most magical moment one can experience under a sea of golden flowers surrounded by hills.

Hundred Thousand Hills

For photography buffs, this particular spot is perfect for endless photos. The hills arrange themselves symmetrically forming an unmatched set of unique topography and magical colors. And this is the reason for the occurrence of the yearly Canola Flower Festival taking place in the area during the Chinese new year period.
